En 1637, Descartes formula una regla que cambiará Occidente: "dividir cada dificultad en tantas partes como sea posible". Es una intuición poderosa — y la ciencia moderna nace de ahí. Pero al dividir sin volver a religar, ese método se vuelve hábito mental, y luego forma de vida: separar el sujeto del objeto, el ser humano de la naturaleza, el hecho del valor. In 1637, Descartes states a rule that will reshape the West: "divide each difficulty into as many parts as possible". It is a powerful intuition — modern science is born from it. But dividing without re-linking turns the method into a mental habit, then into a way of life: separating subject from object, the human from nature, fact from value.

El primer corte aísla lo que estaba tejido: el individuo de su sociedad, la economía de la ecología, la razón de la emoción. Cada mitad parece existir por sí sola. Pero un individuo sin vínculos, como una economía sin biosfera, es una ficción que tarde o temprano se cobra su precio. The first cut isolates what was woven together: the individual from society, the economy from ecology, reason from emotion. Each half seems to exist on its own. But an individual without bonds, like an economy without a biosphere, is a fiction that sooner or later exacts its price.

El segundo corte explica el todo por sus partes: la sociedad como suma de individuos, la vida como química, la mente como neuronas. Lo que se pierde es justo lo que importa — la organización, las relaciones, lo que emerge del conjunto y no está en ninguna pieza. The second cut explains the whole by its parts: society as a sum of individuals, life as chemistry, mind as neurons. What is lost is precisely what matters — the organization, the relations, what emerges from the whole and lives in no single piece.

El tercer corte arranca el saber de su mundo. Nacen expertos que saben cada vez más de cada vez menos, capaces de medir el árbol e incapaces de ver el bosque. La hiperespecialización fragmenta no solo el conocimiento: fragmenta la responsabilidad. Nadie responde por el todo. The third cut tears knowledge from its world. Experts are born who know more and more about less and less, able to measure the tree and unable to see the forest. Hyperspecialization fragments not only knowledge: it fragments responsibility. No one answers for the whole.

Vives a metros de cientos de personas y no sabes el nombre de tu vecino. La ciudad multiplica los contactos y adelgaza los vínculos: soledad acompañada. La salud pública ya la llama epidemia. No falta gente alrededor — falta la trama que convierte a esa gente en comunidad. You live within meters of hundreds of people and don't know your neighbor's name. The city multiplies contacts and thins out bonds: crowded solitude. Public health now calls it an epidemic. There's no shortage of people around — what's missing is the weave that turns them into a community.
Cuerpo — el paciente que se pierdeBody — the patient who gets lost
La medicina especializada salva vidas y, a la vez, parte al enfermo en órganos: un cardiólogo, un nefrólogo, un traumatólogo… y nadie que mire a la persona entera. El diagnóstico gana precisión y pierde contexto. El cuerpo se cura por partes mientras la vida se vive en conjunto. Specialized medicine saves lives and, at the same time, splits the sick into organs: a cardiologist, a nephrologist, an orthopedist… and no one looking at the whole person. The diagnosis gains precision and loses context. The body is healed in parts while life is lived as a whole.
Sistema — la economía sin biosferaSystem — the economy without a biosphere
Cortamos la economía de la ecología y llamamos "externalidades" al planeta. El PIB sube mientras el clima se desploma, porque cada cifra vive en su silo. Los problemas se tratan por separado — y los problemas, tercos, siguen estando todos enredados entre sí. We cut the economy off from ecology and call the planet an "externality". GDP rises while the climate collapses, because each figure lives in its silo. Problems are handled separately — and the problems, stubborn, remain tangled in one another.

Distinguir es necesario y fecundo. El error no está en separar para entender, sino en separar y olvidar volver a unir. La disyunción es el análisis que se quedó a vivir donde solo debía pasar. Distinguishing is necessary and fertile. The error isn't separating in order to understand, but separating and forgetting to join again. Disjunction is analysis that settled down to live where it should only have passed through.

No es nostalgia de la tribuIt isn't nostalgia for the tribe
La cura no es regresar a un "nosotros" fusional que disuelve a la persona. Eso sería el corte opuesto: aplastar lo singular en lo colectivo. El problema no es el individuo — es el individuo desligado. The cure is not returning to a fusional "we" that dissolves the person. That would be the opposite cut: crushing the singular into the collective. The problem isn't the individual — it's the unbound individual.

No es solo un problema intelectualIt isn't only an intellectual problem
La disyunción no vive solo en las cabezas: está cosida en las instituciones, en el trazado de las ciudades, en las políticas por sectores. Por eso reformar el pensamiento y reformar la sociedad serán, al final, la misma tarea. Disjunction doesn't live only in heads: it is sewn into institutions, into the layout of cities, into siloed policy. That's why reforming thought and reforming society will, in the end, be the same task.

Por eso el corte se siente "natural" — y por eso la salida no será un argumento, sino otro modo de pensar. Ese giro es la próxima cápsula. A paradigm is not an opinion: it is the invisible lens that decides what we see and what we never even perceive. That's why the cut feels "natural" — and why the way out won't be an argument, but another way of thinking. That turn is the next capsule.
Donde se vuelve incómodoWhere it becomes uncomfortable
La simplificación nos dio la ciencia, la medicina, el puente que no se cae. No se trata de tirarla por la borda — sería ingrato y suicida. El reto es más fino: integrar sin renunciar a distinguir. Quien denuncia la disyunción y cae en un "todo está conectado" vago, ha cambiado un corte por una niebla. Simplification gave us science, medicine, the bridge that doesn't fall. This isn't about throwing it overboard — that would be ungrateful and suicidal. The challenge is finer: to integrate without giving up distinction. Whoever denounces disjunction and falls into a vague "everything is connected" has traded a cut for a fog.
