A pedido de la UNESCO, Morin escribe Los siete saberes necesarios para la educación del futuro, y desarrolla a fondo la idea en El Método 6: Ética. El séptimo saber es la antropo-ética: una ética que no llega desde fuera, como mandamiento, sino que emerge del bucle que somos — individuo, sociedad y especie a la vez. At UNESCO's request, Morin writes The Seven Complex Lessons in Education for the Future, and develops the idea in full in Method 6: Ethics. The seventh lesson is anthropo-ethics: an ethics that doesn't arrive from outside, as commandment, but emerges from the loop we are — individual, society and species at once.
Porque llevamos esa triple condición, ninguna ética es solo personal. Cuidar de mí, cuidar de la comunidad y cuidar de la humanidad son tres tramos de un mismo lazo. La ética es la religación vuelta acto. Because we carry that triple condition, no ethics is merely personal. Caring for myself, caring for the community and caring for humanity are three stretches of one same tie. Ethics is reliance turned into act.

Empieza en el autoexamen: la honestidad con uno mismo, la resistencia a la auto-justificación que todo lo perdona en nosotros y nada en el otro. Conocer la propia ceguera es el primer acto ético. Sin trabajo sobre sí, la virtud pública es máscara. It begins in self-examination: honesty with oneself, resistance to the self-justification that forgives everything in us and nothing in the other. To know one's own blindness is the first ethical act. Without work on the self, public virtue is a mask.

Cuidar el vínculo social: sostener la democracia, la solidaridad, las instituciones que nos religan. La fraternidad no es un sentimiento tibio — es una práctica: participar, responder por lo común, no delegar la ciudadanía. La sociedad se cuida o se deshace. To care for the social bond: sustaining democracy, solidarity, the institutions that re-link us. Fraternity is not a lukewarm feeling — it is a practice: to take part, to answer for the common, not to outsource citizenship. Society is tended, or it unravels.

Asumir nuestra triple identidad — individuo, sociedad, especie — y la ciudadanía terrenal que de ella se sigue. Su tarea, dice Morin, es "humanizar la humanidad": hacernos cargo, también, de las generaciones que vienen y de la Tierra que heredamos. To assume our triple identity — individual, society, species — and the earthly citizenship that follows from it. Its task, Morin says, is to "humanize humanity": to take responsibility, too, for the generations to come and the Earth we inherit.

En plena discusión, en lugar de buscar tener razón, intentas comprender. Morin llama a esto la ética de la comprensión: ver al otro como sujeto, no como obstáculo. Resistir la auto-justificación es, a la vez, un acto íntimo y político. In the heat of an argument, instead of seeking to be right, you try to understand. Morin calls this the ethics of understanding: seeing the other as a subject, not an obstacle. To resist self-justification is, at once, an intimate and a political act.
Sociedad — sostener lo comúnSociety — sustaining the common
Votar, ir a la asamblea, cuidar la plaza, sostener una institución aunque no te dé nada inmediato. La fraternidad se demuestra en lo que haces por gente que no conoces. Una comunidad vive de esos gestos sin recompensa visible. To vote, to show up at the assembly, to tend the square, to sustain an institution even when it gives you nothing immediate. Fraternity is shown in what you do for people you'll never meet. A community lives on such gestures without visible reward.
Especie — responder ante quien vendráSpecies — answering to those yet to come
Decidir hoy pensando en quienes aún no nacen: el clima, los suelos, el saber que dejaremos. La justicia intergeneracional extiende el vínculo en el tiempo. Humanizar la humanidad es no tratar el futuro como una externalidad más. To decide today with the unborn in mind: the climate, the soils, the knowledge we'll leave behind. Intergenerational justice extends the bond across time. To humanize humanity is to stop treating the future as one more externality.

No es moralismoIt isn't moralism
No es una lista de reglas que se aplican igual en todo caso. Es regeneradora y situada: pide juicio, diálogo, atención al contexto. La ética compleja no dicta — acompaña una decisión que sigue siendo tuya. It isn't a list of rules applied identically in every case. It is regenerative and situated: it asks for judgment, dialogue, attention to context. Complex ethics doesn't dictate — it accompanies a decision that remains yours.

No es altruismo ingenuoIt isn't naïve altruism
Sabe que el ser humano es sapiens y demens: capaz de lo mejor y de lo peor. La ética no niega esa sombra — trabaja con ella. No supone bondad: la cultiva, contra la corriente, sabiendo lo que hay. It knows the human is sapiens and demens: capable of the best and the worst. Ethics doesn't deny that shadow — it works with it. It doesn't assume goodness: it cultivates it, against the current, knowing what we are.

Both at once, feeding each other. To begin with either one is already to begin with both.

La ética no se manda desde arriba: brota del propio lazo que nos constituye. Por eso religar (cápsula II) y la ética son lo mismo visto dos veces: una describe el tejido; la otra lo cuida. Aquí el manifiesto se cierra — y vuelve a empezar. Ethics isn't commanded from above: it springs from the very tie that constitutes us. That's why reliance (capsule II) and ethics are the same thing seen twice: one describes the weave; the other tends it. Here the manifesto closes — and begins again.
Donde se vuelve incómodoWhere it becomes uncomfortable
Si reformar el pensamiento exige reformar la sociedad, y al revés, ¿por dónde se empieza? El bucle puede paralizar — o moralizar al vecino mientras uno no mueve nada. La respuesta de Morin es desarmante: se empieza por cualquier parte, porque cada gesto en un punto del bucle ya mueve el resto. If reforming thought requires reforming society, and vice versa, where do you start? The loop can paralyze — or moralize the neighbor while changing nothing oneself. Morin's answer is disarming: you start anywhere, because each gesture at one point of the loop already moves the rest.
